Privacy Policy

TinyWX · Effective August 18, 2026

The short version. TinyWX is an independent aviation weather app built by one person. There are no accounts, no ads, no third-party trackers, and nothing is sold. Your airport list and settings live on your device (and your own iCloud). The app can send anonymous, opt-in usage data to help improve it — never your name, email, location, or the airports you save.

This policy covers the TinyWX iOS app and the tinywx.app website.

What stays on your device

Your saved airports, folders, and app settings are stored on your device. If you're signed in to iCloud, the app backs them up to your own iCloud (Apple's Key-Value Storage) so they survive a reinstall and sync across your devices. That copy lives in your Apple account — the developer has no access to it.

Weather data

When TinyWX shows weather, it requests it through a caching proxy at wx.tinywx.app, which relays public observations and forecasts from the FAA/NOAA Aviation Weather Center (aviationweather.gov). To do that, the proxy necessarily sees the airport identifiers (ICAO codes) being requested and standard technical information that comes with any internet request (such as your IP address, handled transiently by the hosting provider). The proxy keeps an aggregate count of how often each airport is requested and basic traffic totals, to run the service and manage caching. These counts are not linked to you or to any identifier.

Location

If you use the “Nearest Airport” feature, TinyWX asks for your location and uses it on your device to find the closest field. Only that resulting airport identifier is sent to fetch its weather — your precise location is never sent to the developer. You can decline the location permission and the rest of the app works normally.

Optional, anonymous usage diagnostics

To learn how TinyWX is used and where it breaks, the app can send a small anonymous snapshot about once a day. This is opt-in — you can turn it off anytime in Settings → Diagnostics, and nothing is sent when it's off.

When enabled, a snapshot may include:

It never includes your name, email, precise location, or the specific airports you've saved. The data goes to the developer's own server (hosted on Netlify) — not to any advertising or analytics company.

Beta signup

If you request a beta invite on tinywx.app, the form collects your email address and, optionally, your name. This is used solely to send you a TestFlight invitation. Submissions are handled by Netlify Forms and are not shared or sold. Ask to be removed anytime using the contact below.

Crash and performance data (via Apple)

If you install through TestFlight or the App Store and have opted in with Apple to share crash and usage data, Apple may provide the developer with aggregated crash reports and performance metrics. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy and your device settings.

Data retention

On-device data stays until you delete the app. Beta-signup emails are kept only as long as needed to run the beta, then removed. Anonymous diagnostics and aggregate traffic counts are retained only as long as useful for improving the app and are not tied to your identity.

Children

TinyWX is intended for pilots and aviation enthusiasts and is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect information from them.
